Training
Training your Chainmons is a vital part of the gameplay experience and is heavily influenced by machine learning and a player's individual playstyle!
Every Chainmon species and unique variation has a base level of intelligence associated with them. Favorable stats like IVs and traits are no longer the only core principle of determining their performance in battle and other situations. Instead, players will find that each Chainmon comes with a unique nature that gives them an advantage or disadvantage in various situations like battling and farming.
By utilizing this nature as a base level of intelligence and utility, players can target train their individual creatures to either expand their capabilities or highly specialize them for dedicated tasks and opportunities.
The full potential of each Chainmon needs to be discovered, evaluated and trained over time to make them fit player's individual preference and playstyle.
Ways to train your Chainmons:
Active Training: Battling against other Chainmons
Passive Training: Creating custom playgrounds inside a Dojo for specific tasks
Reinforcement: Consuming special items like Candies and Berries
All of these opportunities combined provide the core of your Chainmons' performance across all aspects of the game!
Active Training
Of course, every unique Chainmon has access to a core training data set which resembles their experience across all gameplay elements but these will differ from Chainmon to Chainmon across all species and is assigned on birth and catch. We want players to take an active part in training in order to make them not only truly unique for each individual player but also enable a level of customization beyond anything out there.
Imitation Learning
Imitation training requires players to be part of the action, enabling a fine-grained control and customization potential. This, however, prevents players from actively engaging in other gameplay elements while their training takes place on their screens.
Battling
Every battle against either a wild Chainmon or NPCs is part of the learning process for this particular Chainmon. Through imitation, it will understand your movement, timing of abilities, evading and overall decision making to understand how you as a player are behaving in the context of battles against specific opponents.
In battles, players can decide if they want their Chainmons to battle fully autonomously against the opponents or jump right into the action themselves, take control and intervene if necessary. This switch is fully dynamic so let the action and your training take place or introduce new maneuvers on the fly. It's all part of the learning process.
Playground
In order to improve certain less battle-oriented activities including farming resources and other tasks, players can take part in pre-defined playgrounds and minigames that all serve as valuable training opportunities for their Chainmons.
Some examples are:
Obstacle Courses
Survival of enemy waves
Races against other Chainmons
These playgrounds are aimed for players themselves trying to achieve the best times or highest scores which - through imitation - the more often completed, the better your Chainmons will perform autonomously in Passive Training.
Passive Training
Chainmonsters can be sent off to train passively where they fully autonomously complete hundreds of battles, tasks and activities while players can focus on other gameplay elements. This is incredible useful for players who want to maximize both their personal time and efforts as well as the full potential of their Chainmons.
Custom Dojos
Players who own a Dojo are able to create custom playgrounds, challenges and experiences through an easy to use in-game level editor. Other players are limited by the free Dojos spread across the game world but they can rent out a custom Dojo from an owner to also utilize their custom opportunities.
Designing a Dojo
Through the in-game level editor, owners can choose from a list of pre-built templates tailored for specific training activities or decide to custom build it from scratch using a wide variety of utensils, components and training goals. Through this flexible system, players might be able to find ways to speed up their personal training journey by being creative and experimenting!
Training in a Dojo
Any of your Chainmons can be sent off to train using your configured and built experiences and therefore players can target train highly specific aspects of their Chainmon's skills over time.
Renting out Dojos
Owners can choose to make their Dojo available to the public in exchange for a price set in $MONSTER. This Dojo experience can then be used by the paying player for both active and passive training.
Upgrading Dojos
Initially, Dojos have a limited capacity of simultaneous training capabilities which can be expanded and upgraded by the owner over time. This enables additional Chainmons to be trained passively as well as freeing up additional slots for other players to rent from the owner.
Reinforcement
In order to reinforce your individual Chainmon's behavior, learning process and skills, players need to reinforce their creatures by either rewarding or penalizing them on a regular basis.
This goes a long way over time and can be compared to a real example of e.g. training your dog or pet.
If it completed a hard challenge nicely and you feel that it did a couple of actions and decisions very well, then you can decide to further reinforce their behavior which improves their ability to either continue in that direction or try something else next that satisfies your expectations better.
Reinforcement is enabled through various options in-game, here are a few examples.
Emote Menu
The Emote Menu allows you to interact both with other players as well as your Chainmons.
Patting your Chainmon after a successful challenge
something something that prevents bad behavior
Special food
Special food can be found and acquired throughout gameplay and each species has their favorites!
Berries are dependent on the Chainmon species. Give them a little treat
Candies are species-independent. Different candies reward positive results in various amounts.
The bond between your Chainmons plays an important role in how well they behave and follow your instructions. No Chainmons will be harmed during training and beyond.
